Young Lions Youth Academy

The Young Lions Youth Academy is designed to provide a structured youth pathway for boys and girls committed to developing their abilities with a view to playing at the highest level (NPL/WNPL) on offer in Tasmania.  The program is for Youth boys and girls aged U13-U18.  The Academy also offers dedicated Goalkeeper Training for keepers.

The program has been developed inline with the NPL Youth Academy guidelines and will ensure that the club's youth program is sustainable and consistently delivered by coaches meeting the FFA Accreditation requirements for NPL clubs. This includes ensuring Academy Coaches have attained (or are in the process of attaining) a FFA Youth C Licence as a minimum.

The program aims to develop youth players in line with the club's team model, resulting in players with a good understanding of team and player tasks and the skills to execute these well.  The Youth Academy will also work on other important areas during the course of the four annual cycles, including:

  • Further development of Core Skills (First Touch, Striking the Ball, One V One, Running with the Ball)
  • Prepare players for senior football by teaching them to apply the functional game skills in a team setting
  • Develop tactical awareness, perception and decision-making through a game-related approach to training
  • Develop personal and social skills
  • Enhance players  Wellbeing

The program incurs an annual enrolment fee for the year which includes player registration. Prior to Cycle 1 of the program assessment sessions are run to enable coaches to assess the best place for players within the Academy structure. Additional assessments are done as required during the season. Enrolment kits are provided after consultation with the Youth Coordinator or club's technical director.  Request more details.
