Kingborough Lions United FC appoints Ben Horgan as full time Academy Manager

Ben will be the Club’s first full time employee and will be responsible for the day to day operations of Kingborough Lions United FC’s community, junior, youth, SAP and school football programs, including talented player identification and development.

In the role of Academy Manager, Ben will also coordinate new football programs throughout Kingborough, Huon and Channel schools and communities. These programs will ensure large engagement participation of youth and junior players in the region as well as utilisation of the Club’s facilities during weekdays. These new programs will provide coaches with full-time support whilst helping develop the NPL and WSL players of the future. Ben will also be responsible for ensuring regular coach development programs are delivered.

Ben has been employed by Football Federation Tasmania in various roles since 2013, most recently as the ALDI MiniRoos and Junior/Community Football Development Manager, as well as coaching state teams and talented player programs. Ben’s interests lie in player and coach development, a factor that attracted him to the role at Kingborough.

“The club is making a serious investment in junior and youth development, they have some of the best facilities in the state with further plans for development at Lightwood Park. It is a growing region with huge potential so I’m excited to be a part of it. The club aims to deliver the highest quality player development programs in the state and I’ll be working hard with coaches to support players throughout the Kingborough region to achieve their full potential and reach their goals in football” Horgan said.

Ben has coached a number of boys and girls state teams over the past 6 years at the FFA National Youth Championships, in the under 13, 14 and 15 age groups, has assisted at the NTC Challenge as well as coaching in FFT’s Talented Player programs. He has also worked in Community Coach Education as a course presenter on the MiniRoos, Skill Training and Game Training Certificates. Ben is undergoing training to become an accredited AFC C Licence presenter.

“This full time appointment demonstrates the club’s commitment to the development of football in the region”, KLUFC Technical Director, Simon Edwards said “I am looking forward to working with Ben to improve and grow our programs to take them to the next level. His enthusiasm, professionalism and desire to improve others, coupled with a full-time focus will be a game changer.”

Ben will commence mid January and players looking to engage the development opportunities on offer should contact the club.
