Kingborough Lions appoint Women’s Coaching Team for 2018

Kingborough Lions United FC has reappointed Simon Edwards as the Head Coach of the Senior Women’s program for 2018.  Edwards' coaching team will include Lions’ 2017 Southern Womens Championship coach Martin Dunnington and 2017 WSL assistant coach Jaimie Clarke and Ashley Bastock as sports trainer..

Currently Technical Director at the club, Edwards has coached with the Lions for over 9 years. His passion for female football has seen him instrumental in the development of youth and senior programs that have resulted in the Club having one of the strongest female programs in the State. In 2017 Edwards coached the Kingborough Lions for their first season in the state-wide PFD Women’s Super League competition with the youthful team finishing in 6th spot.

The reappointment of the experienced Dunnington and Clarke to the coaching team provides stability, continuity and focus.

“Jaimie and Martin have excellent football knowledge, coaching skills and are passionate - we are all on the same page with the goals for 2018. I am looking forward to working with them again during the 2018 season”, said Edwards, "it is also exciting to welcome Ash into the coaching team as trainer wth his Level 1 sports trainer accreditation"

In review of last season, Edwards summarised,

“The 2017 season saw a youthful squad step into Senior Women’s football in our PFD Womens Super League and Southern Womens Championship teams. We achieved our objectives for the group, including development of the young players’ mental strength and focus. Despite some injury setbacks, there was a clear and significant improvement in the quality of football being delivered by our WSL team. The SCW team also delivered an excellent season. A number of our players were selected to represent Tasmania in National Football Championships which was a pleasing achievement for the program.”

Edwards has ensured the Women's program has access to the same excellent injury management program that the NPL men access through partners Kingston and Hobart Chiropractic.  Additionally the program has attracted some top quality sponsorship partners in St. Lukes Health, Tassal and Unica Wealth.

The Lions’ Football Management Committee are very excited by these appointments

“Congratulations to the entire Senior Women's coaching team. I'm sure you'll all continue with the great progress made last season.”

said Club President Warren Iles,  who sees the reappointment of this team as a demonstration of Kingborough Lions United FC’s continued commitment to their players, community, sponsors and football development in the region.

Edwards finished with

"We invite players aspiring to play at the highest level who want to be part of a great program to get in touch and come along to a session at Lightwood Park, Kingston with pre-season sessions already under way. Cycle 1 commences for the full squad on Monday 20 November 6:15pm”
