Kingborough Council Kicks a Goal for the Lions

The Kingborough Lions United Football Club is celebrating the news that the Kingborough Council has committed $312,000 in their 2017/18 budget towards developing an additional football ground at Lightwood Park.

Warren Iles, Club President today thanked the Council on behalf of all our players and supporters for their tremendous support.
This is a major step forward in turning our vision for a premier football (soccer) facility in Kingborough into reality.
The Council's funding is going towards the construction of a new natural grass football ground adjacent to the existing Lightwood Park. We are also seeking State Government funding so that the entire project can proceed including the lighting and associated ground improvements.  The completed stage would enable the Lions to host night games for PS4 NPL TAS and PFD Womens Super League at the Den.

This project will expand the Lions Den to support games and training across all age groups and cement Lightwood Park as the premier natural grass football ground in Tasmania. We have had good support to date and our fingers are crossed for hopefully some further good news soon.

This project at Lightwood Park is the first stage. A working group of the Lions, Council and Football Federation Tasmania is also undertaking a feasibility study with $15,000 from the State Government into the potential for additional all-weather synthetic grounds and associated facilities at the Kingston Sports Centre.
Currently the growth and demand for playing football south of Hobart outstrips the capacity of local grounds and facilities.

Good on the Council for backing community football in Kingborough.
