Game Structure and Rules
Football Federation Australia (FFA) has developed Small-sided Football, which is designed to have fewer players competing on a smaller-sized field. They are fun games that encourage players to have more touches on the ball. This format has a positive developmental impact on younger football players.

Small-sided Football makes the game a better experience for children. More touches on the ball, more opportunities to make decisions, more actual play. Players will be more actively involved due to playing both attacking and defensive roles within a match and will understand the importance of team- mates and playing and working together. SSG applies to Under 6 through to Under 11.
The Under 12 age group will play 11 a- side with full FIFA rules, which has created a more natural pathway for progression and preparation for playing in youth and ultimately senior divisions.
